Established in 1998 and situated on the majestic Cairns Esplanade opposite the local pelican resting place Jungara gallery is the oldest established Aboriginal fine Arts & craft Gallery in Queensland. Jungara is the name of a significant and important local area beside the rainforest mountains to the west of the towns city centre. The word jungara is also the indigenous name for a beautiful native hard wood tree also known as the black bean tree. Furthermore in NSW the word Jungara represents the Pelican Dreaming story. In 2005 Jungara Gallery opened its second fine art gallery at the beautiful
resort beach of Palm Cove, 30 kms north of Cairns. Unlike many other local galleries, Jungara’s Galleries display an extraordinary variety of artworks from all part of our large country. Jungara Galleries of North Queensland have become established as the premier place to buy quality indigenous Australian artworks in North Queensland Jungara Gallery is the longest established dealer in Queensland for local Indigenous artists: Ian Waldron, Brad Go-Sam, Leanne "Wanjidari" Reid, Andrew Langjitigun Walker, The King Sisters Sarrita and Terese from Katherine, Flynn Milmera Wallace, Peter Mungaran Mulcahy and Billy Missi. The Galleries also handle works from some of Australia's
